SEIU6: How did you hear about the SEIU Free College Benefit?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valdez: I heard about it from an SEIU email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SEIU6: What are you studying in college?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valdez: Business Administration with a focus on Information Systems. I\u2019d like to become an IT specialist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SEIU6: What\u2019s it like taking all your classes online?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Valdez: The classes can be rigorous and you have to motivate yourself. It\u2019s more interactive than you\u2019d think. People want to help each other, so it\u2019s easy to make study buddies. It\u2019s mainly adult learners who are changing careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SEIU6: Is it hard balancing work and college?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valdez: It\u2019s made me a better officer because I have to manage my time carefully. It\u2019s made me sharpen my skills and my focus, and figure out what works for my learning style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SEIU6: How was the application process?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valdez: Easy. I hadn\u2019t filled out a FAFSA in a long time, but it wasn\u2019t hard. Once my paperwork was submitted, the program administrators were quick to reach out to me and they\u2019ve been very helpful and supportive. You get the feeling that the folks behind the SEIU Free College Program really want you to succeed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
