On Dec 8th, Nancy Kibocha, an SEIU6 member, flew to DC to talk to members of Congress in Capitol Hill about passing the Good Jobs for Good Airports Act. She shared her personal experience as an airport worker at SeaTac and how setting a national wage and benefit standard would impact her quality of life and that of her co-workers. She was able to meet U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (NY) Ed Markey (MA), Richard Blumenthal (CT) as well as U.S. Representative Chuy García (IL) and Delegate Eleanor Holmes-Norton (DC). She also met with staffers from Senator Cantwell’s office and the Senate Committee on Commerce.
During the rally, Nancy and other airport workers shared their very powerful stories about working at their respective airports. Participating in the national day of action was important to Nancy, because she believes all workers need to fight together for respect, good healthcare, and good jobs. She felt inspired seeing workers come together across different states, different nationalities, and races to fight for their rights and better working conditions. She believes that the strides that we are making in the industry would not be possible without unions.
“I won’t stop fighting; I will keep moving and never give up. For I am not just fighting for myself but also for my fellow co-workers.”
