Communications Associate, SEIU6 Property Services NW
Summary
SEIU6 Property Services NW is seeking a creative and digitally adept Communications Associate to join our team. This position works under the Communications Director to produce print and digital content that tells the story of SEIU6 to our members and the world. We are looking for someone with strong reporting skills who can interview our members in the field and create visually compelling stories that connect individual struggles with collective solutions. Top candidates will have the desire to fight not only for the economic interests of the working class, but for equity at the intersections of race, gender, immigration status, the environment, and the future of work.
About SEIU6 Property Service NW
SEIU6 is a labor union representing over 10,000 janitors, security officers, airport, stadium, and allied industry workers in Washington State. SEIU6 is a highly diverse local union with members from Washington and all over the world, and over 30 languages spoken. Through organizing and collective power, SEIU6 members raise standards for working families at the worksite and beyond.
Job Responsibilities
- Interview members in the field
- Produce content for website and social media channels
- Collaborate on digital strategies for member engagement
- Produce short form video content
- Design print communications including newsletters and flyers
- Conduct trainings on digital tools for member communications team
- Write press releases, news stories, factsheets, and speeches
- Collaborate in producing events including actions, delegations, and rallies
- Take high-quality photographs at union meetings and events
- Train members in public speaking and digital communications
- Conduct media outreach, including maintaining working relationships with journalists and generating positive media coverage
- Collaborate with members, organizers, staff, and community groups to develop communications messaging and strategy
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Highly developed writing skills and ability to write engaging copy for general audience
- Social media content production and management
- Familiarity with contemporary digital best practices with an eye on new modes of engagement
- Document design
- Video production
- Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of judgment
- Ability to work independently without supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
- Experience in building strong working relationships
- Background in writing, design, journalism, social justice, education, communications, or related field
- Strong personal commitment to racial equity; experience applying a racial equity lens to campaign development is desired
- Experience working alongside communities of color and/or immigrant and refugee communities is preferred
- Driver’s license and car (with insurance) required
- *** Fluency in a language other than English is strongly preferred***
Compensation
Salary range is $65 – $75k DOE. Excellent benefits including 100% employer-paid, full family health insurance; pension; and car allowance. This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
